3.2. Examining pain

An EMS unit arrives at an accident scene where a 22-year-old downhill skier has fallen.

Pm: What happened?

P: I was skiing downhill, and fell badly. I have pains all over my body.

Pm: Where does it hurt the most?

P: In my right hand and left knee.

Pm: Can you move your hand and leg?

P: My leg functions, but my wrist hurts very bad, and I can’t move my fingers.

Pm: How does the pain feel on a scale of 0–10?
