Martti, who is suffering from a memory disorder, has called 112 because his wife Siv hasn’t been responsive. Emergency medical services arrive and confirm that Siv has passed away already a while ago. Resuscitation is not commenced. The paramedic is giving the sad news to Martti, and Martti gives the paramedic his son’s phone number.
S: Haloo.
Pm: Good evening. Is this Matti Lindberg?
S: Yes. What is it? I won’t buy anything.
Pm: This is emergency care nurse Lasse Lahtinen. Your father Martti Lindberg called the emergency response centre, because he hadn’t been able to get a response from your mum Siv when being talked to. When we arrived, we found out that your mother had passed away already some time ago. I’m very sorry for your loss.
S: Thank you. What should I do now?
Pm: We can’t transport the deceased by ambulance, we need to order a hearse to take the deceased to their own health care centre. You can call the health care centre’s information and ask for further advice there.
S: Can you take my father to the health care centre with you? He can’t cope on his own at home.
Pm: We can’t unfortunately take him. Would it be possible for you or a close relative of yours to come and stay with him?
S: I’ll call the house next door and ask if someone from there could come. Can you wait for a few minutes?
Pm: Yes, we can.
